Museuesum’s inception begins with this museum rolodex. A Rolodex of New and Old Museums’ Links Directory (ARNOLD) is a list of museums and similar institutions in California. Accompanying the collection is the visiting information for each institution including admission hours and fees. Go down the list, search using keywords, or filter using the radio buttons and find which museums you’ll be visiting next.
Although I meticulously input and continuously update the information, always check the institution’s official website before visiting. Feel free to reach out with comments or feedback here. ▪︎

First opened in 1952, the Forest Lawn Museum is located adjacent to the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection at Forest Lawn – Glendale. Forest Lawn’s founder, Dr. Hubert Eaton, wrote in his Builder’s Creed that our park should be “a place where artists study and sketch; where school teachers bring happy children to see the things they read of in books.” In that spirit, the Forest Lawn Museum displays a permanent collection, as well as world-class rotating exhibits. With engaging special exhibits and free educational and artistic activities, there is always something new to experience.

Right in the heart of L.A. sits the world’s most powerful gateway to the Ice Age. The asphalt seeps at La Brea Tar Pits are the only active urban fossil dig site in the world. Plants and animals from the last 50,000 years are discovered here every day. Outside, you can watch excavators carve fossils out of the asphalt. Inside the museum at La Brea Tar Pits (established in 1977 as the George C. Page Museum), our staff prepares these discoveries in the see-through Fossil Lab. You'll see the final result in our exhibitions: extraordinary saber-toothed cats, mammoths, dire wolves, and mastodons, as well as the tiny, but scientifically significant, microfossils of insects, plants, mammals, and reptiles. The Tar Pits help us understand life around Wilshire Boulevard long before we got here, and what lies ahead as climate and habitats continue to change.
La Brea Tar Pits Parking Onsite $18 Flat Rate. The museum's parking lot is located at the corner of Curson Avenue and 6th Street, directly behind the museum. Enter from the western side of Curson Avenue. If you choose street parking, please read all parking signs carefully, as restrictions apply. Most importantly, do not park along Wilshire Boulevard between the hours of 7-9 am and 4-7 pm (Monday - Friday), or your car will be ticketed and towed. This applies even if you are parked at a meter.
